ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sheila's professional background was in nursing but she has had a lifelong interest in art. Beginning at the age of 10 with Clare Bice at the London Public Art Gallery. After nursing, Sheila took classes with Hugh MacKenzie at Beal (Oil Painting). Then marriage and family required a move to Toronto. Sheila painted in acrylics for some time but returned to her first love, watercolour and took private classes in Toronto and belonged to the Willowdale Group of Artists.

Returning to London after a car accident in ’89 she slowly got back to painting and has been a member and past president of the Lambeth Art Association for 29 years. During that time she has taken several workshops here and in the United States. She credits Donna Vogelheim’s intensive workshops on colour studies with her better understanding of colour properties and how they work together. With all the manufacturing changes it is an ongoing study. Her fascination remains with the production of luminous watercolours and how to approach a painting to achieve them.

Sheila taught fundamental drawing and watercolour for several years and loves to see students who have gone on to achieve beautiful work.  She has paintings in collections across Canada, the UK, United States and Japan.
